Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to commonly asked questions about SunHeater® Swimming Pool Solar Heating Systems.

How does solar pool heating work?

Solar pool heating systems are simple. Using your existing filter pump, pool water is circulated through specialized solar thermal panels known as “heat collectors.”

Water is heated as it flows through the panels, and returns to your pool warmer.

How many panels do I need to heat my pool?

Determining how many panels you’ll need to heat your pool is easy – simply find the kit for your pool type, and follow the recommeded sizing guide. Then, order the number of kits specified.

When in doubt, there is no harm in sizing up.

Do the panels need to be roof-mounted?

No. While roof-mount kits are available, SunHeater® can be installed on a rack or even on the ground next to the pool.

Your SunHeater® panels should receive 6 to 8 hours of sun daily to see the full benefit of solar pool heating.

Will I need a larger pump?

In most cases, your pool’s existing filter pump will be adequate to circulate water through the panel(s). For above-ground pool where panels are installed on the roof or on a rack, the pressure-drop from solar may require the filter pump to be upgraded.

How long will SunHeater® panels last?

When properly installed and operated, the SunHeater® Swimming Pool Solar Heating System is designed to provide years of trouble-free pool heating.

Made in the USA from premium UV-stabilized polypropylene, SunHeater® panels are warranted against defects in material and workmanship for up to 10 years!

Which SunHeater® kit is right for me?

Which SunHeater® kit is best for you depends on the type of pool you have (above ground, inground or semi-inground) as well as how you intend to connect SunHeater® to your pool (hard-plumb with rigid PVC pipe, or soft-plumb with flexible 1-1/4″ or 1-1/2″ cuffed pool hose).

Are SunHeater® panels safe for my family?

Absolutely – SunHeater® panels are made in the USA from a premium-grade, UV-resistant polypropylene. Certified and listed to NSF-50 for safety, durability, and toxicity, you can rest assured SunHeater® is free of toxic forever chemicals like BPA, PFAS, and phtalates.
